Congratulations to Leo Nichols for his promotion to Jr. shikkyu and Tiffany Gilbert for her promotion to Jr. Gokyu.

Red, White and Blue Classic

Yesterday at the Red, White and Blue Classic in Marion, In, we had 2 students compete.
Gabe Vosmeier took 4th in the Junior Novice 5-6. He lost his first match 0-1-1/0-0-2, by going the entire time limit. The second match, he won by pin. And the third he lost by ippon.
Leo Nichols took 2nd in the Junior Novice 11-12. He lost his first match by ippon, won his second by ippon and lost his third by ippon.
Both fought extremely well and hard and we are very proud of them.

The Best Judokas and their tokui wazas

Tonight in class we practiced throwing our ukes and rolling through the throw. This was a drill to teach you, especially the kids, to throw with 100% effort and commitment instead of just letting them slide off of your hips. I found this video of the worlds best judokas and their tokui wazas (favorite throw). Watch with the intensity and skill and total commitment that they throw their opponents. Notice the offbalance and hip speed that is necessary.
